Marie Sharp’s Smoked Habanero Pepper sauce is a brand new, special edition sauce that’s neither too mild nor too hot. This sauce balances the earthy flavor of smoked habaneros with “just-right” heat in a way that the whole family can appreciate. Made the same way the Mayan ancestors used to smoke and prepare peppers. The formula used is a first of its kind, specially blended with carrots and onions, to create the perfect balance between heat and flavor. Mindfully made in Belize, Central America. 10 oz

This amazing sauce starts with the classic recipe that made Marie world famous, but the peppers are smoked using four different types of fruit wood; Craboo wood, Grapefruit Wood, Guava wood and Orange wood. The result is an exquisite and deeply intense, exotic smoke aroma that is unique and will permeate any dish with rich flavor.

INGREDIENTS: Smoked habanero pepper, fresh carrots, vinegar, onions, salt, lime juice and garlic.

Marie Sharp's

When she started experimenting with flavors in her kitchen more than 40 years ago, Marie Sharp wasn’t setting out to influence the international hot-sauce scene. She was just a middle-aged woman who was obsessed with making a high-quality habanero/carrot sauce blend from her farm’s fresh fruits and vegetables. But, Marie’s knack for creating fresh and exciting flavor combinations was such a hit with family and friends that she started selling her product and soon hired an employee. As word of Marie’s hot sauce continued to spread, American tourists vacationing in Belize started smuggling it back in their suitcases. This popularity with Americans eventually led to Marie’s being the first nationally distributed pepper sauce in the U.S., and the #1 distributed pepper sauce globally (with a presence in 30+ countries).

It’s great, but I consider it a BBQ sauce. It’s very fluid and I always use more of it than the classic. It’s spicy but it’s the BBQ flavor that stands out the most, and that flavor is strong. It took me a day to get used to it but I warmed up to it quite a bit afterward. Still, this sauce easily overpowers other flavors and it lingers in your mouth for much longer than the other flavors. It works well on some things, but not on all things (as the classic almost does). It’s worth a shot if you’re looking for different things to try from Marie Sharp. The Belizean Heat flavor is worth a look too if you want more than just the classic.

I take back my previous comments: This sauce is great on grilled meats. Marie’s regular habanero sauce goes well with *everything* and I shouldn’t have expected that to be the case with the smoked habanero sauce. This one doesn’t sit with everything, but the things it sits with, it sits very well. There is a definite smokiness to it, and it’ll add a BBQ flavor to your food even if it isn’t BBQ’d. I wouldn’t throw it on fish or soup, but on grilled or roasted chicken or beef or pork I would for sure. I’m finding i actually prefer this sauce to the regular sauce on those meats (even if only on those meats) 😀

Not the same as Marie Sharp’s other hot sauces, which I absolutely love. Just got an order of these bottles and my first impression was not good. Maybe I’ll get used to it? I can see it work very well with grilled meats and vegetables (to add a smoky flavor to them) but there seems to be an aftertaste at least with other foods. Give it a try but I would say start with a bottle or two (and not ten like this guy here got on a first try!)
